The machine works like a secure, automated prescription locker located outside our Ladysmith Road branch. Once your medication has been prepared by our pharmacy team, it is loaded into the machine and assigned a unique pickup code. You will receive a text message with your code and collection instructions. From that moment, you can collect your prescription whenever you choose – whether that is five minutes later or late at night after work.

What the Service Covers & How It Works

The 24-hour prescription collection point can be used for most NHS repeat prescriptions, acute prescriptions, and many private prescriptions. Once registered, the process is simple and effortless.

When your prescription arrives electronically from your GP or is handed in at the pharmacy, our team prepares your medication as usual. Every prescription is clinically checked, labelled, and safely packaged just like a normal in-pharmacy collection. Once it is ready, we load your medication into a locked compartment within the automated machine.

The system then sends you a text message with a secure PIN code that is unique to your prescription. This code gives you complete access to your medication. To collect, all you need to do is visit the machine at our Ladysmith Road branch, enter your code on the touchscreen, and your medication will be dispensed to you immediately.

Patients often tell us the process takes less than 20 seconds, making it far quicker than waiting inside the pharmacy. The machine is fully secure, monitored, and temperature-controlled for suitable items. It is also fully compliant with medicine handling and data protection regulations.

Most can, but some items – such as controlled drugs or fridge-stored medications – must be collected in person. We will always inform you if this applies to your prescription.

How long will my prescription stay in the machine?
You will usually have several days to collect it. If not collected within the time limit, it will be returned to the pharmacy and you will be notified.
